THE DESIGN PROCESS

 

For book covers:

1. I need a copy of your manuscript

2. I will send you a form to fill out so I can learn more about your ultimate vision

3. While you work on that, I'll read your book to get a good feel for the tone and subject of the book

4. I will design the cover, send samples to you, and you send feedback. Rinse and repeat until you’re 100% happy with the cover.

5. (Optional) If your book is going to print, I'll repeat the above process with the back cover as well.

For interior formatting:

1. I need your manuscript, preferably in .doc or PDF format.

2. I format a sample chapter or two first. That way, you approve the fonts, see how images and lists are formatted, etc.

3. I use fonts, colors, and even textural and graphical cues from the cover and use them on the interior. This pulls the whole book together into one cohesive piece of awesomeness with a powerful message. I ensure everything is perfect, including margins, page numbers, headers, footers, table of contents, etc.

4. When you are happy with the samples, I'll work out the rest of the book and export it in whatever format is needed.

For Kindle/Epub books:

Basically, the process for Kindle/Epubs is the same as the interior formatting just above, with one important note: the design is usually a bit more limited.

​

Kindle and Epub books have certain default fonts. Don’t worry…they’re not bad fonts. It's just not quite as fancy as what we can do with a PDF or print book.

​

WHAT FORMATS WILL YOU GET?

• Solo book covers are usually delivered as a PNG, JPG, or PDF.

• Print books are delivered print-ready and in PDF format.

• Kindle and Epub books are always supplied in .epub formats.

Extras:

You get a 3D book cover in JPG or PNG format. This is perfect to use on your website,

social media, and elsewhere for advertising. These 3D versions are done at no charge,

as a bonus to you and to help you get on your way with marketing. Usually, I'll send

a 3D similar to this one, but I have other 3D options.
